Understanding HDMI

By

If you’re not into technical stuff, you probably don’t know what HDMI is. So, if you’re going to buy a television or a media player, you wouldn’t know what HDMI is. So, if the salesman asks you, “Are you interested in getting an HDMI TV?” You’d probably answer, ‘huh?”

So, what is HDMI?

HDMI stands for high definition multimedia interface. It is basically a licensable connector interface that transmits digital streams. The first version of this video/audio connector interface was introduced in the market in 2002.

The HDMI uses a 15 mm, 9pin single cable that transmits video, audio and control signals. It also uses a single remote control in order to operate and control the devices included in your home theatre. It also has Gink intelligence which helps home theatre’s devices to recognize screen resolutions. This has an auto adjust function for your convenience so you wouldn’t have to bother with screen formats.

If you’re looking for the enhanced DVI version, you are looking for HDMI. This interface is replacing DVI. Since its introduction to the market, HDMI has become the standard for electronics manufacturing. HDMI uses high bandwidth digital content protection (HDCP) protocol. This protocol basically secures the source and sink link. You’d be well protected from output piracy.

Since HDMI was released, new features were added to it. Different versions were also released. All of these versions have 1080pi video resolution. Their only difference lies on audio capabilities. Regardless of what version you get, if you get an HDMI, you have the best.
